Sue is the clinical lead nursing and care in Amana Living’s home care division which supports older people to live independently at home.
She received the award for her ongoing commitment to community care. On receiving her award, Sue said:
“It was a joy and an honour to be recognised for the important part nurses play in people’s lives. This award is validation for the hard work and years of service I’ve dedicated to community care from being in involved the pilot of home care packages in 1998 to helping to develop Amana Living’s home care division.
“Nursing in aged care can be dynamic and fast paced, and I encourage all nurses to consider aged care as a career path. It gives you an opportunity to truly be a part of someone’s life, supporting them to remain in their own home for as long as possible. It really is a rewarding role.”

Sue works out of Amana Living’s Subiaco and Rivervale offices but leads a team of nurses and allied health professionals across Perth, the Goldfields and Peel regions. She’s been an integral part of the growth of Amana Living’s home care division, which now employs more than 200 staff and supports over 1300 clients to stay at home. Amana Living’s CEO, Stephanie Buckland, said:

Sue’s nursing journey was inspired by a school friend’s mother who shared stories about her nursing days. Sue, the eldest of four sisters, was intrigued to see if she could expand her natural instinct to care for people into a career.
She studied nursing with the Cumbrian Health Authority and gained her District Nurse qualification in 1980. Sue emigrated to Perth from The Lake District in 1989 and has been working in the WA home care and residential care sector for 26 years. She’s been with Amana Living since 2007.
