Amana Living’s first major residential care development in more than a decade will open in Kinross, in Perth’s northern suburbs, mid-2023.
The 96-bed, multi-storey building will sit alongside the existing Kinross Care Centre to form a modern care campus.
The new building will provide dementia-specific accommodation as well as general high care. It will also be home to new day club space where older people will meet friends, old and new, and socialise.
Amana Living’s General Manager of Property and Retirement Living, Rita Sheridan, says the new building is spacious, and the interior design is focussed on creating a happy and homely environment.
“Good architecture and interior design help facilitate happiness and enjoyment of spaces,” said Rita.
“We’re working with experts to design a home that will benefit residents’ health and overall wellbeing. For example, we’ll use colour, objects and artworks to help residents navigate their way around the building. These triggers connect them to where they are and to where they want to be, supporting independence and dignity.”
The architecture and interior design also have a strong connection to nature.
“We’ve created a connection with the outdoors as much as possible with large windows and access to outdoor spaces, through to the extensive use of internal and external courtyards.”
The new campus provides intimate spaces to relax and spend time with friends and family, as well as communal hubs where residents can enjoy time with each other. While the landscaping enables the simple pleasures of life, like going for a walk or enjoying the garden, as well taking part in everyday activities in the centre.
“There are winter gardens located on each floor, creating a green space within the building with raised garden beds and soothing interiors that residents will be able to enjoy with their family and friends. Plus, the external landscaping will include dementia-friendly gardens and play areas for children and adults,” said Rita.
We expect the new Kinross care campus to open in the middle of 2023 and look forward to welcoming residents to their new home.
