Dementia Respite Care

If you are caring for someone living with dementia at home, we know how stressful it can be.

If you are caring for someone living with dementia at home, we know how stressful it can be.

There will be times when you need to recharge your batteries, take a holiday or pursue your own interests for a while. Respite care gives you that opportunity.

Amana Living has three day respite clubs for people of any age living with dementia. Under the guidance of our specialist dementia team, staff provide a safe and stimulating environment with therapeutic activities and outings tailored to meet the needs of our clients.

Amana Living clubs are located in the north and south metropolitan areas of Perth (Kinross and Bull Creek) and in the central suburb of Osborne Park.

Residential respite care is a great way to try out a care centre you might be considering for permanent care. Seven of our residential centres offer short-term stays of up to nine weeks in a secure, dementia care environment.

Our care centres offer some of the most spacious rooms in the industry, most with private ensuites, and many with private lounge rooms and kitchenettes. We can accommodate a wide range of mobility, care needs and levels of independence.

Explore the map to find a centre near you or call us on 1300 26 26 26 to discuss your needs.

Day Respite Clubs

Amana Living clubs are exclusively for people of any age living with dementia.

Our highly respected specialist dementia team guide our club carers and therapy staff in providing an environment that is both relaxing and stimulating.

It is important to us to respect and get to know each individual, to listen to their story, and to involve family members in their care so that we understand their loved ones better.

What we do in the clubs depends on what clients are interested in, such as gardening, cooking, or crafts. We also provide tailored activities for particular groups, such as men’s sheds and outings for younger people living with dementia.

We encourage everyone to join in with what’s happening on the day, but if they prefer to simply take it easy, they are welcome to do so. We understand that people living with dementia can easily become over-stimulated, so we provide more soothing activities if we think this will help them to relax.

Our three clubs are located in our dementia service centres in the north and south metropolitan areas of Perth (Kinross and Bull Creek), and in the central suburb of Osborne Park.

Amana Living clubs are open from Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening activities. We can arrange transport to and from the club, and we provide lunch and morning / afternoon tea.

Care Centres

Seven of our care centres provide dementia-specific residential respite for up to nine weeks.

During their stay, we get to know our clients as individuals with their own needs, abilities and preferences. We understand that they will want to do things in their own way and take their time. At the same time, we encourage them to enjoy the change of scene, different activities and the opportunity to socialise with others.

A short stay in one of our care centres can also help to ease the transition into permanent care. Just as important, if you care for an older person at home, this option gives you the chance to take a real break and recharge your batteries.

Use our interactive map to browse our locations and go to the menu links for further information on each centre.

Day respite

Day respite clubs operate under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) scheme.

To find out if you are eligible for CHSP services, contact us and we will help you.

Alternatively, you can talk to the My Aged Care Contact Centre on 1800 200 422. They will refer you to the Regional Assessment Service who will then carry out an assessment and decide whether you are eligible for Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) services.

Care centre respite

To find out if you are eligible for residential care centre respite, you must have been assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) during the last 12 months.

To arrange an assessment, contact your GP.

The ACAT includes a doctor, nurse, social worker and other health professionals. They will review your care needs and determine the best way to meet them.

If the assessment states that you have been approved for respite care, you are ready for the next step.

Contact us to arrange your respite care by calling 1300 26 26 26.

You will be entitled to a maximum of 63 respite days per year.
