Leading the team is Jane Mbole, a registered nurse with more than 10 years’ experience and a passion for infection prevention and control.
Jane is the infection control consultant and reports directly to our Health Care Quality Assurance General Manager.
In her many years of nursing, Jane has cared for patients during cholera and malaria outbreaks in Kenya. She’s provided care for patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Tuberculosis (TB), and helped educate staff across 33 countries on HIV infection, transmission, testing, prevention and treatment.
“I’ve got a passion for infection prevention and control. I’ve been through pandemics as a registered nurse and if I know and understand the enemy, that is the infection, then I know how to protect myself and others,” Jane said.
Most recently, Jane has delivered care for residents during influenza and gastroenteritis outbreaks in residential care, and provided care to COVID-19 patients in hospital during the first wave of the pandemic in Perth.
In her role as infection control consultant, Jane is working with our teams to enhance our procedures, auditing and improving infection prevention and control processes, and introducing additional training to build the clinical capacity of our staff.
Jane explains: “One of the major things I’m involved in is reviewing the outbreak management and infection control procedures for residential care, transition care and home care. I’m also using my experience to develop and implement training, educating staff about COVID-19, PPE use, hand hygiene, cough etiquette and cleaning.”
Jane’s role extends across residential care, home care and our catering partner, TCS, and her efforts build on the work undertaken by Amana Living since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia.
This extensive work by Jane and the wider team will ensure all our staff are prepared and can respond quickly to keep residents, clients and staff safe in the event of an outbreak.
