Tourism WA chief Stephanie Buckland has been appointed as the new CEO of Amana Living. She will take up the position on 1 August 2016.

The appointment of the new Amana Living CEO follows a rigorous national search process for a leader who can continue to grow the organisation within an increasingly competitive market.

“Stephanie Buckland has proven herself to be an inspiring leader, astute business manager and savvy marketer during a 20-year career,” said Amana Living Chairman Steve Scudamore. “We are in no doubt that she is ideally placed to lead Amana Living into a new era of growth, as the Australian aged care sector undergoes major transformation and increased competition.”

It has been clear for some time that the baby boomer generation demands attention to choice and quality, which also helps stimulate greater investment in over-55s services, and more competition.

The new consumer-directed care (CDC) approach is already giving consumers more control and choice over the home care services they receive and how these are delivered. With further deregulation on the way next year, and plans for similar changes within residential care, we are seeing a wider range of services emerging as well as increased competition.

“Aged care, much like the tourism industry, is going through a period of growth. I am excited to be joining this very important industry and look forward to leading the team at Amana Living,” said Stephanie Buckland.

Amana Living’s current CEO, Ray Glickman, is leaving to pursue a career change in non-executive directorships and management consulting.

“Ray Glickman has devoted an outstanding 11 years to Amana Living, leading the organisation through a time of immense change,” said Mr Scudamore.

Stephanie Buckland is an experienced Chief Executive Officer with a background in marketing and product management. She has been the head of Tourism WA, the State Government’s tourism agency, since 2010. Stephanie led a major reform of the agency, streamlining operations and focusing resources on marketing, events and tourism infrastructure. She also led the development of the State Government Strategy for Tourism to 2020, which has helped the industry to grow from $6.3 billion in visitor expenditure in 2010 to $9.0 billion in 2015. Under her leadership, the agency has addressed industry supply bottlenecks through a hotel development incentives policy and launched numerous innovative campaigns such as ‘The Extraordinary Taxi Ride’ and ‘Margaret River Gourmet Escape’.     

Prior to joining Tourism WA, Stephanie was head of retail marketing for Bankwest, and she worked for Pfizer Consumer Healthcare in the USA and Australia with responsibility for brands such as Zantac Heartburn Medication and Listerine Mouthwash. She is the Deputy Chair of the Scarborough Redevelopment Committee and a council member of St George’s Anglican Grammar School.
