Eugene - Day Centre Assistant

After working as a screen printer and then a sales rep. in Albany, I was encouraged by my wife to do a Cert III in Aged Care. I did the practical component at James Brown House, assisting with care duties, music & medication before being employed on a casual basis.  Soon after, I was offered permanent shifts and I have never looked back.

Amana Living has offered me fantastic training opportunties, covering areas such as food and infection control; bullying; fire & emergency; medication and I.T.  I have been asked to take charge and keep an eye on things when the manager has been away which has made me feel really trusted and valued.

My clients are my number one & I really enjoy the activities I do with them such as woodwork, watering, making fish ponds and sing-alongs.  I love that I get to use my creative talents and I get great ideas from them.  I loved that I have gained their trust and their eyes light up when I find the right activity for them.  Being with them brings back memories of my grandpa & the things we did together.
