We understand that trying to find the best aged care services for yourself or your family member can be a very confusing and stressful time. There are many different types of services on offer and each has its own terms for eligibility and associated fees.

Definition of services

High Care (nursing homes):  High Care provide comprehensive 24 hour nursing care in a supported homelike environment.

Low Care (hostels):   Accommodation for older people who need support with every day activities such as showering, personal care, administration of medications and social activities. Maintaining residents individuality and independence, Low Care provide a home-like environment that includes private accommodation, three meals a day, cleaning and laundry services, 24-hour assistance and emergency call systems.

Dementia Care:  Amana Living’s two dementia specific hostels provide care for people with moderate to severe dementia who are ambulant and do not require full-time nursing care. Within these specialist environments, understanding and care are provided to both residents and families.

Retirement Living:  Communities designed for fully independent older people, and offer a variety of accommodation styles and amenities.

Respite and Day/Evening Care: Carers of older people, people with dementia and people who are disabled often need some care themselves. To help carers 'take a break' Amana Living offers a range of dementia specific day and evening care as well as respite care options.

Community Services:  Community Services aims to support those who choose to remain in their own home and to support their carers.  The services include day clubs, Home and Community Care in home respite and support services, Community Aged Care Packages, Extended Aged Care at Home for clients with dementia and Senior holiday support.

Extra Services:  Provides superior hotel like accommodation and range of service and entertainment options. Higher resident fees are paid in return for the higher services.  Two Amana Living facilities have been granted special approvals by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing to provide Extra Services status accommodation at Lady McCusker Home in Duncraig and Peter Arney Home in Salter Point.
